3 Often-Forgotten Things To Ask When Buying A Used Car

Buying a used car is financially logical for a lot of reasons. However, buying a used vehicle also means you are buying a vehicle that someone else has had control over, so there are certain questions that should be asked whether you are buying from a used car dealership or an individual. Take a look at some of the often-forgotten questions to ask the seller when looking at used cars for sale

Find out about the pre-programmed access code.

If the car has access entry buttons on the driver door, make sure you ask for the code before you drive away with your used ride. The code is typically set initially by the manufacturer but may be able to be changed by the new owner. If the prior owner or people who have driven the car before still have the access code, they will still have access to your vehicle. Plus, you will need the existing code to set your own code. Therefore, it is best if you know the old code so you can change it to your own personal preferences.

Find out if the car is still under warranty or if certain repairs are under warranty.

Just because a car is used, does not necessarily mean that it is not under warranty. Many cars these days come with a warranty that extends coverage for right up to the 100,000-mile mark or more in some cases. This warranty follows the vehicle through different owners. Likewise, if there have been certain parts replaced or work is done, those things could be covered by a warranty as well.

Find out if there is more than one key available for the car.

It is common for cars these days to have one key since the key has to be programmed by the manufacturer or dealership. However, duplicates can be purchased and programmed. If there is another key out there floating around for a car that you own, you definitely need to know about it. Most sellers will offer to tell you if the key is the only key for the car, but they may not openly tell you if there is another key out there lost or in the possession of someone else. If there are extra keys that the seller does not have, it may be necessary to change the programming code in the key that goes to the car to prevent theft.

About Me
Keeping Your New Car Clean

After picking out the perfect new car a few months ago, I realized that it would be difficult to keep it clean. With kids, smashed crackers and spilled milk are just part of your everyday reality. Fortunately, my auto dealer gave me a few tips that really helped. She recommended keeping a portable trashcan inside of the car, so that we could collect packages and paper scraps along the way. She also showed us which floor mats to use to capture spills. This blog is all about keeping your new car clean, so that you aren't embarrassed when you take your car in for that oil change.
