There is nothing better than the smell of a new car. However, if there is something wrong with your car, you might discover smells that are a warning sign that something is wrong with your car. If you don't address the problem, you might have more expensive car repairs down the road.

Exhaust Fumes

You might start to smell exhaust fumes and this is usually a cause for concern. The exhaust gas is somehow getting into the cabin of your car. You will want to pull over and will want to have your car towed to an automotive repair shop so it can be inspected to find out what is causing the smell.

Acrid Smells

If you start to notice an acrid smell, this can be a sign that the clutch or brake material has been burned. When you press down on the brakes, this is when you will start to notice the acrid smell. This smell can also be created by having a stuck parking brake. Regardless, you will need to find out where the smell is coming from and make sure that you have any repairs made that are necessary.

Rotting Egg Smells

A rotting egg smell is something you should never smell coming from your car. It is usually a sign that your car has a problem with its catalytic converter. Without a functioning catalytic converter, your car might not be able to release exhaust and your car will not run.

Gasoline Smells

If you smell gas in your car, this could be a sign that there is a leak in your engine bay. Gas can leak around the tank and underneath the car. You might notice a pool of gasoline underneath your car. Make sure that an automotive repair mechanic inspects the car because the problem will only get worse if it isn't corrected.

Other Types of Smells

There are all sorts of other strange smells that you might experience while driving your car such as a:

  • Sweet smell
  • Moldy smell
  • Smell of sulfur
  • A burnt wood smell
  • A burning oil smell

If you're not sure if you are actually smelling the strange smell, you should ask someone else if they smell it. If there is a smell, it could be a sign of a range of problems and you will need to make sure that a car repair technician can identify the cause of the smell and correct the underlying problem. About Me
Keeping Your New Car Clean

After picking out the perfect new car a few months ago, I realized that it would be difficult to keep it clean. With kids, smashed crackers and spilled milk are just part of your everyday reality. Fortunately, my auto dealer gave me a few tips that really helped. She recommended keeping a portable trashcan inside of the car, so that we could collect packages and paper scraps along the way. She also showed us which floor mats to use to capture spills. This blog is all about keeping your new car clean, so that you aren't embarrassed when you take your car in for that oil change.
